The Defense Department released 2 reports yesterday related to Afghanistan which look at the progress related to the country’s security and its national forces. The studies were mandated by Congress to analyze results of Operation Enduring Freedom through March and are intended to include semi-annual updates. The “Report on Progress Toward Security and Stability in Afghanistan” looks at the security environment and describes is as very “fragile.” It can be found at http://www.defenselink.mil/pubs/Report_on_Progress_toward_Security_and_Stability_in_Afghanistan_1230.pdf
“United States Plan for Sustaining the Afghanistan National Security Forces” looked at the capabilities and progress of the Afghan National Army and the Afghan National Police force.
