DSB report - Nuclear Deterrence Skills

The Defense Science Board has just posted its latest report on Nuclear Deterrence Skills. This report – “Report of the Defense Science Board Task Force on Nuclear Deterrence Skills” cane be found directly at http://www.acq.osd.mil/dsb/reports/2008-09-NDS.pdfhttp://www.acq.osd.mil/dsb/reports.htm or from their reports page http://www.acq.osd.mil/dsb/reports.htm

The DSB Task Force was asked to assess military, federal and contactor nuclear deterrence skills utilizing the 2002 Nuclear Posture Review and the Strategic Capabilities Assessment in doing so. The report provides findings and recommendations addressing broader programmatic issues resulting from a “lack of prioritization and de-emphasis of nuclear related systems.” The report recommends methods and strategies that senior officials should utilize to maintain “a right-sized, properly trained, and experienced work force to ensure the viability of the U.S. nuclear deterrent through 2020.”
